Chablis is where Amina grew up, and it's the place we both call home. We're Amina and José, a Franco-American couple, and we'd love to tell you how these houses came to be.
In 2022, just before we left for three years in Canada, we bought a 19th-century house on the village quay. We flew back whenever we could to work on it, and with the help of Amina's brothers we uncovered old oak beams and Burgundian stone. Little by little, the house came back to life.
We modernised the heating, wiring, and bathrooms, and kept everything that gives the house its character: thick stone walls, warm rooms, and soft morning light.
That house became Rose. Then came Lyla, right next door, and Iris will follow once the last of the work is done. Amina lives in Chablis and is usually the one who welcomes you at the door. We hope our houses feel like the places we always hoped to find when we travelled.
Why Vaudésir?
Chablis has seven Grand Cru vineyards, and on José's very first visit, Vaudésir became his favourite. Its vines are a short walk from the house, so the name chose itself.
And then there's Chablis itself. Mornings start with warm bread from the boulangerie, afternoons drift between cellar doors and the vineyards above the village, and evenings end with a glass of something local by the river Serein.
It's a small village with a lot to share. Come and stay a while, and we'll gladly point you to our favourite winemakers, tables, and walks.
